Bored I was in my room, so I decided to translate a post in English. That makes two separate posts, I don't know if that's the optimal way to do... You can expect more posts written in English
The place where I live, in Flogsta, is located in the near neighbourhood of the center Uppsala. I insist on the "near", because it's only ten minutes away from the center by bus or by bike, and 15 to 20 minutes by roller skating, when you no longer are constantly looking for the right direction.
There are a dozen of buildings, buildings that are not really pretty; however it's a really wooden area, so it's not that bad. The insides of the buildinggs are nicer than the outsides. Everybody lives in "corridors", which are groups of 12 rooms, with a living room and a well equipped kitchen (3 fridges, 3 freezers, a lot of heating things, cupboards). For those who are familiar with the ENST Bretagne campus, the corridors look like very big "lofts". I guess that the corridor-mates have to be quite organized to keep the common parts clean.
According to the messages left by the former tenants on the fridge, the corridor life must be really exciting. Well I'll write about that when everybody will have moved in their rooms (actually it's really quiet now).
The room is 19 square meters, is equipped with furniture (this is true only for exchange students): shelves, chairs, a big desk, a bed. By the way, the bed is not really good: we had to go to Ikea to buy a mattress (which was not included) to put over the really soft springs (ressorts). In addition to this, the wall in on the right side of the bed, which surprised me on the first night (I had the walls on the left for more than 3 years): I almost fall from the bed. Well "fall again", that already happened at the hotel... Finally, toilets and shower is in the room. "Swedish-style" shower (I don't know if that's the traditionnal shower, but I've already seen that kind of shower at the hostel): there is no separation between the shower and the rest of the bathroom. I'm not keen on this concept actually.
Oh, by the way, there is a sauna on the roof of each building.
Earlier, I've talked about bicycles. In fact, the majority of people makes moves by bike here. There are loads of shortcuts through fields or woods, so I think you can reach the MIC (maths and information departement of the university) from Flogsta in less time by bike than by car. However, no goudron in all these shortcuts, so if you wanted to travel by rolleskating, too bad... Tomorrow, I'm buying a bicycle...
Ça papote...
